The Datacom Industry Association (DIA) proudly announces its significant contribution to the recently published 2024 Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) by Networld Europe, the European Technology Platform (ETP) for communications networks and services.
The contribution of key members of the DIA community to Chapter 3, titled “Fundamental Enablers for Future 6G Systems,” addresses topics that were previously underrepresented in a minor subsection within the architecture chapter. Now, Chapter 3 of the SRIA fully captures the broader technological innovation landscape of communication solutions across the many verticals that a future 6G system may serve, as well as their enabling protocols and algorithms.
The vision outlined in Chapter 3 aligns with the system of systems vision that underpins the objectives of the DIA to bring vertical needs and insights into the development of cross-cutting horizontal technologies. The enablers outlined in Chapter 3, ranging from control plane innovations, routing, and addressing over transport networks and protocols, to novel forms of interconnections beyond the current Internet as we know it today, are poised to drive the future of 6G. The DIA’s coordinated efforts and its members’ deep technical expertise were instrumental in identifying and articulating these foundational areas.
“This contribution represents a major milestone for the communications research community and reflects extensive input from DIA members. These contributions formed the technological bedrock for what is now the Systems and Enabling Technologies Working Group (WG) within the DIA. This is a huge success for our community,” said Dirk Trossen, co-chair of the Working Group of the DIA.
The full SRIA is now publicly available here.
About DIA
The DIA aims to bridge the gap between innovation and industry applications, driving Europe’s leadership in digital communication systems and enabling technologies for the transmission and processing of digital information across local and global networks in a secure, resilient, and efficient manner. The association seeks to attract diverse voices from across Europe to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive approach to digital innovation. The DIA offers a range of membership options to suit industry leaders, SMEs, researchers, and organisations. Organisations and individuals interested in becoming part of this initiative are encouraged to apply online for membership and participate in working groups tailored to their expertise and strategic goals. Early members have a unique opportunity to shape the direction of DIA initiatives, gain early visibility into EU and national activities, and participate in the creation of new R&D opportunities. For 2025, there will be no membership fees, making it an ideal time for organisations to join the community and contribute to its mission.
